Fairytales

Sakina posted this up on FB... I thought it would be interesting to see what the fundamentalist Muslim males have to say. I didn't agree with the first 2 minutes (it's all programming - who in their right mind is going to compare Lady Mariam's story of complete chastity, mother of Jesus, living in that era, with us today? WHO?) and was going to comment, then thank Goodness wisdom and lack of true interest overtook me and I told myself to disagree with it in private.  ... then I continued to the end - because I REALLY liked the way he read it and the poetry flows. I liked the end bit. (Apart from the mention of Aisha. Sorry, that's my programming kicking in. Why oh why can't you guys use Khadija, Maria, Umm-e-Salama as examples... WHY??? Why is it always Aisha? WHY???? Umm-e-Salama was there for Hussain and for Zaynab, grandchildren of the Prophet, at the time of Karbala - loyal and honourable until the VERY end; Khadija is one of the four ladies of Paradise, ...

"I don't bite"

23 May 2012 Wassalaam Ihsan! :) I trust you are well and enjoying your time in Johannesburg... can I ask you a favour? I'm sure you've known many girls called Sukaina in your time, and they were okay with you calling them a nickname, but I'd rather be called Sukaina for now. Especially since you don't really know me. I trust you not to butcher the pronunciation, as most people tend to do. No, I have written much longer emails to one specific guy. Having said that, I really enjoy expressing myself through writing. I have been blessed with an excellent memory. I remember almost all the people whose profiles I have read on this website. Plus, you might be the only person I have come across living in South Africa. Although, I must say, your "What I'm looking for" section is pure gold as far as good writing is concerned. It will be great to see you create that with the right person :) Iqbal's good. I like inspirational poetry. I like Rumi; I li...

No more drama

Remember how insanity is doing something in the same manner and expecting different results? Here's proof what did I repeat? Listening to Sidra's suggestion about going on the website Caving into what might have been intuition and also impulsivity about going back onto the same bloody website I met Imran on Putting my photos up Having to say no to the men I am not interested in and having those I was interested in back off or show no interest or decency to respond writing what I think is an honest and truthful and yet compassionate email and then getting a response like the  one I got from Akhlaq below emails like this: 14-09-2011 Salaam Akhlaq, Thanks for taking out the time from to email - I am sure it must be a really busy time for you! InshaAllah your surgery will go well on Monday and please don't worry about replying to me - you take your  time and do what needs to be done with uni and your health and your life :) To be honest, I think I'm go...

Love is

"I don't pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you.” Saw this on Facebook. Made me smile. Partly because it's so beautiful and chaste and pure and partly because it ignores all the rest of it. The dark side. I suppose that's w hy we're foolish enough to try again or to forget the pain. This is the third time I am typing this particular post. Due to my keyboard without the double-u working, it has been deleted twice because I pressed the button next to control and it deleted it. As though the universe doesn't want me to type these things out. I figured I am still in love w ith Imran. ...

150 ball point pens

Mark gave me a mock interview today. I did okay - I said "uhm" 13 times (he counted, the meanie). Not quite sure why I'm seeing him next week if I haven't started looking for work - although he was really convincing in his persuasion for me to start again. I needed to borrow his ball point pen because, as usual, could not find it in my huge-ass purse. He said yes, sure here you go... but make sure you give it back. I know all about you pen thieves. Then he says: I was at home one day and was bored and looked at the pot in font of me and thought "I wonder how many pens I have in the house" and so I counted them all - I have 150 pens at home..." Boy, I bust a gut laughing... who in hell has time to count all the PENS in the house???? And actually REMEMBER how many???? And this guy, my dears, is a cool guy - he's funny and he plays football, has a life partner and all the rest of it... bless him, it is worth seeing him each week to hear these radic...

Je m'appelle...

This is it! Not only is this the third male cousin of mine who has travelled to Karachi and gets his nikah recited after two weeks. I already have issues with that because it has been and is currently so bloody ridiculously challenging for me and for the people I love to find their life partner and get married. But what hit me was that her name is Sukaina, as is his sister-in-law's and as is MINE! There are WAY too many Sukainas in the world. And there are way too many Sukaina Jumas in the world. I should know: I'm the person who keeps searching my name on Google, Skype and Facebook. And, up until this very moment, I thought I was the only Skye Jacques. And then I had to search, didn't I? https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001618292031 The easy bit is getting rid of Juma. I've hated that name for ages, because it's not me. It's the family name, the father's name, the ancestral name which has no bearing on me. It's got nowt to do with ...
