Friday sermon

That is why 'Ali (A), in sermon 129, after warning the people of the dangers of worldliness, says: You live in a period when virtues recede and evils advance step by step, and the Satan becomes greedier in his eagerness to ruin human beings. Today his equipment has been reinforced, his traps are set in every place, and his prey comes easily. Look around; you will see either a poor man hardly able to breathe in extreme poverty and penury , or a rich man who has transformed God's blessings into his own infidelity , or you will see a miser who makes stinginess in discharging the obligations imposed by God a means of increasing his own wealth , or you will find the rebellious whose unruly hearts are deaf to moral admonition. Where are the virtuous, the righteous amongst you? Where are the free men and the magnanimous? Where are those who avoid every trace of deceit in their dealings and pursue piety and honesty in their ways? WEDNESDAY, 5th November 2008 "Thou thinkest thou ...

Ramblings

Invitation to Islam: A Survival Guide by Thomas McElwain "This study is based on the philosophy that the Bible can be used effectively in dealing with the people of the Book, for the very good reason that the Bible more consistently teaches Islam than it does Christianity. Working with Jews is another matter, since Judaism, both in teaching and practice, is very close to Islam. It is of little use to point out to Jews that the Bible does not support the doctrine of the Trinity, for example. They do not believe in it anyway. Although there is a focus on Christian-Muslim relations, much of the material in this study can be applied especially to secularized people, who unconsciously maintain many Christian misconceptions, and even to people of other religious traditions. " This is reminscent of something I've been thinking about for some time. Catchphrases or tacky slogans we could use for today's generation and contemporary society: Want to be a better Christian? Pop quiz

I now know what it is to fail a pshychology pop quiz. I failed miserably. 1) I will not be able to do anything. 2) Thinking of my father makes me mad. 3) My mother will never allow me. 4) If only. 5) I must. I gave all the wrong answers when compared the 'normal' person's response. What a load of bull shit. Grr. Grr. Grr. L'hiver est arrivé

... en force et les mois prochains seraint bleus, nulls, vides et très, très déprimants. It hit me today, I was watching Emma on tv at 7ish pm and it was already quite dark and quiet and it hit me. Oh my God. L'hiver est arrivé, forget the fact that daytime temperatures are still at 30+. So what can I look forward to over here in winter? SAD, even though it never goes below freezing here in the daytime. And I find myself wishing that I were in England, do not ask me why. It's really not as though life would be an ounce different there than here. Except maybe I'd go into town after the New Year and meet someone for coffee for a ruddy hour. And have a ready access to 39p chocolate which probably costs 60p now. No wonder I make myself depressed: I'm never contented where I am. Fuck. Now just because Umair is still in Newcastle, I want to go back to England. Because I envy him being there. What for? It's fucking cold there. Cloudy. Rainy. Same shitty place as it were l...

Poetry

If you hear words that hurt you, then bow your head before them and they will miss you. Imam Ali (a) "I am asked to praise Ali in verses, Because recital of his praises will Release a man from Hell. I replied to them, how can I praise A man whose attributes are so sublime That men got confused over these attributes And started apotheosising him. He has placed his foot at such an eminent place, That according to the Holy Prophet (AS) It is the place on which, on the night of Meraj, God Had placed His hand of Grace and Mercy." (Anon) "It is someone whose footsteps are known by every place And it is he who is known to the Bayt in Mecca the most frequented sanctuary; It is he who is the son of the best of all men of God and it is he who is the most pious and devout, the purest and most unstained the chastest and most righteous a symbol [for Islam] This is Ali [b. al Husayn] whose parent is the Prophet This is the son of Fatima, if you do not know who he is Whosoever recogniz...

Penny Pasta

Penny Pasta Went to Copper Kettle on Saturday. Food was excellent, especially the cheesecake and the 'penny' pasta. I laughed out aloud when I read that on the buffet table. Apparently, you can make homemade pasta, but it requires a lot of dedication and work when it comes to drying it after you've cut it into shapes. But I felt way guilty afterwards. On the surface, we spent just five quid per person, but in Paki terms that's 500 bucks and you could have 5 dinners with that amount. Yummy fish and chips from Ponderosa... oooh. *blank, blissful stare* 2nd psychobabble session Anyway, technically had my 2nd session with the talking shrink yday. Seems I'm waffling away, I finally spoke and maybe it was irrelevant to the question she'd asked, but that's what came to mind at that mo. She made a very good imitation of a 'sarcastic' smile. I talked about my not believing life as absolutely sacred because it didn't occur to me when writing my list and be...

Second shrinking session

I have to get this out while it's still fresh. I still don't like her; I don't trust her and just thinking about going to the session today stressed me out so much. Then of course, there was an emergency for one of the patients in the psych ward and another of her clients came later than their appointed time so she saw me at 7:15 pm. And I was just building up all this resentment and anxiety and irritation till I snapped at my mum and then burst out crying. She makes me think that it's all my fault and the way they push it on you: you have the ability to change, only you can make your life and all that rubbish. I know that. I fucking know that you twat. I want that fucking magic pill or treatment or epiphany and if it doesn't happen then this is indeed a very unfair deal. She said she's never had a case of negative transference: I may the first patient. She makes me feel so uncomfortable and a waste of time and space: I'm not as bad as many other patients w...
