"I don't bite"

23 May 2012

Wassalaam Ihsan! :)

I trust you are well and enjoying your time in Johannesburg... can I ask you a favour? I'm sure you've known
many girls called Sukaina in your time, and they were okay with you calling them a nickname, but I'd rather be called Sukaina for now. Especially since you don't really know me. I trust you not to butcher the pronunciation, as most people tend to do.

No, I have written much longer emails to one specific guy. Having said that, I really enjoy expressing myself through writing.

I have been blessed with an excellent memory. I remember almost all the people whose profiles I have read on this website. Plus, you might be the only person I have come across living in South Africa. Although, I must say, your "What I'm looking for" section is pure gold as far as good writing is concerned. It will be great to see you create that with the right person :)

Iqbal's good. I like inspirational poetry. I like Rumi; I like Tracy Chapman; I like Keane; I like Atif Aslam; I also like Outlandish. There is a word limit on this website, otherwise I'd probably put up the lyrics for Rabba Sacheya, Try Again, Change, Out of Sight, Crash N Burn and Amen here, too. Hardly "drunk".

"Are you really so weird?!" Choose your words carefully, laddie, you might cause offense without meaning to. I may have called myself weird, I also called myself sensitive.

I am who I am. Hope that answers your question. We all are multifaceted, multidimensional beings. To continue to label or classify people is to do them a disservice.

My mother was born in Uganda. I was not.

I am sure I was not presuming anything about Cape Town. In my current life situation, living in the city I was born in - which is London - seems to be the best choice for me at the moment. And that may change, it may not. I have no idea. However, I feel I am not out of line to express a personal preference.

I have a Facebook profile. I do not have a Shiamatch profile. Simple.

As far as the photos are concerned, you're free to do as you wish. As am I... you seem slightly too preoccupied with what I look like :) But remember, girls can be as superficial about looks as men are. I know with absolute certainty that I am extremely superficial when it comes to looks :)

So you not wanting to share your photos is a little amusing... I don't usually have this issue with the other people I've spoken to. Oh well, there's always a first! :)

Guys tend to like my sassy attitude at first... but that's just one aspect of who I am, and it is usually the one I need to bring out in order to fit in with the rest of the world and to reel people in :) The other aspects of my personality may not be to everyone's taste, and then the featherweights drift (or run) away. I've learnt to accept that. I fought too hard to become who I am to start compromising myself. No real point, is there? As Tracy Chapman wisely says, All that You Have is Your Soul.

This email definitely has a different tone to it. I appreciate your friendliness and self-confidence, but it comes across as slightly invasive, so I hope you understand that I'd like to make you aware of the impression I am getting from you... there is a very thin line between good natured confidence and the kind that leaves a bad taste in the mouth :)

Have a great weekend...

Sukaina Juma (you can just call me Sukaina... I added my surname in case you want to FB stalk :) )

Thanks for your reply Sukaina - but plz relax ya?! I don't bite - PROMISE!

I guess it's easy to take my reply up the wrong way since we dont know each other, for which i need to apologise profusely if it did offend in any way. If only you were to know me, you would realise i'm harmless, friendly and communicate easily:-) I hate the formalities, but i do not compromise on respect - hence my apology if you found my reply disrespectful.

I'm not surprised at all - people often take me up the wrong way initially, only to realise (after getting to know me) that their initial impression of me was completely offside.

Hey, i might of taken your initial reply up the wrong way too...this is the problem with mail exchange, very much like a picture - you can have 5 different people looking at it and seeing 5 different things...that's how it goes i guess.

I am however concerned, that after 2 emails, i'm still no closer to getting to know you. And you directed me to your fb profile which has pictures of everything except you. Plz explain why you would send me there?? I guess i need to explain y i dont have a pic up here. It's simple really - the pic i have on ShiaMatch is rejected when i upload it on this site. Why?? i dont know! And i dont have any other recent pics of me alone. they are all group pics.. but you have seen my pics on fb ya?? I still havent seen any of you though...

I do like your upfront approach - i hate it when people say all is fine when all is NOT fine. I am a strong believer and advocate of open, honest and frank communication - provided it is done respectfully.

Let me know your thoughts...

Stay blessed,

Ihsan

Salaam,

My thoughts, Ihsan?

Information has randomly come to me that you are a serial engagement type of guy - including a certain Sukaina from East Africa and then her best friend - and that you copy and paste the same introductory email to the girls on this website... just catering it slightly to each individual.

I guess the Universe has my back this time and is giving me the information I need BEFORE I make serious errors in judgement. Or learn more crappy "life lessons".

Smells fishy and playa-like. I am DONE with attracting overly confident, insensitive playas :) Not my type.

As for my photo... (still not liking your obsession with my looks) people say I look like a cat. So my current FB photo is quite representative.

Or you could visit my blog. The address is on the FB profile. I think I have a recent one there somewhere.

I assure you I clean up nicely.

And yes, I have seen the photos of you.

Speak soon...

Sukaina :)

P.S. I've had a rough week, so part of this has nothing to do with you...

***

"I don't bite"... seriously? Another Imran soundbite... I sorely miss him. Or someone like him.

Which reminds me, I keep coming across Someone Like You by Adele on the radio, one person had it playing
in their car this week.

At least it actually makes sense this time around...

I laughed OUT LOUD when I read your cat comment...oh Suki I wish you were here so I could hug you to bits!! Your first email was very well worded and I think you did a fantastic job of putting "what's what" on the table. Oh and you're oh so witty...I think I do have a bit of a crush on you.

p.s. I know details don't elude you so I just wanted to let you know that the first comment I deleted was the same as this one (except I accidentally referred to your second email instead of your first).

The parents

Your Type Four EnneaThought for January 13th— Reflect on your childhood today. As a child, did you believe you were not like your parents? Did you feel that you were not "seen" by your parents and that you did not connect sufficiently with your parents? As an adult, what does this have to do with you now? (The Wisdom of the Enneagram, 182) As I've said myriad times before, these things just slap me in the face with a wet fish most days. I suppose it makes sense that I should send Reiki healing to my relationships with my father and my mother. Haven't really done that for ages. It's too hard sometimes, I choose to ignore and avoid dealing with them mainly because these are the two people I've been connected with since birth. A lot of effort is required in order to 'let things slide'. Living with my dad is hell, and I'm co-creating it on purpose, as part of my desire to annoy, to hurt him the way he hurts me. My mum, well, I guess we'...

Je dois écrire

Je dois écrire . L'ironie est que quand j'avais le temps, je na'i pu pas fair rien . Doesn't matter, I have to write. I keep listening to poets like Keane and Travis and Darren Hayes and I'm here, with the creativity finally bursting forth again, and what's more, the joie de vivre bursting through and I'm not writing and I'm not taking pictures and I'm doing bloody cashier work at Oxfam. I am a swan, I am a seagull that glides and glides. I am the tree, the squirrel. Words are all I have to make myself different from you lot. To make myself lighter, somewhat more worthy. How low is my self esteem that I still believe those falsehoods. I just cannot find people on my wave length. It means I never shall. Or I do and because of my skin colour or because I am behind the Oxfam counter, or because I am in Morden, or London, or the UK, I shall never know. An opera singer. A person who wants to wear kurtis but is scared of going into a desi shop i...

Judgement

Tarot Card Interpretation & Meaning - (20) Judgment Introduction: Judgment can be a card about jumping to conclusions, decisions and judgments. which are too hastily made. If you are prone to such things, this is a clear signal to slow down and give things more thought and to give people "more chances." This can be a real time of spiritual awakening.           General: In general, if you are the one tending to jump to conclusions, you can put a stop to it. If others are making these kinds of decisions about you or about someone you care for, there is really very little you can do, apart from realizing that it's their problem, not yours. Health: This is an important time to let go of the past and any wrongs that you perceive were done to you, particularly if you are dealing with chronic medical issues. Letting go of your need to be right will go a long way toward helping you to feel better. Besides, if ...
